Pilot of Escadrila 51 Vanatoare de noapte (Night squadron), Lt. Av. Mihai Basarab Brancoveanu, flying a Messerschmitt BF 110D-4 2Z + NW W.Nr 3711 – crashed and died in 10 august 1943 near Valea Leurzii Village, Dambovita County. With my friend from Romanian WW2 Aircraft Archeology we found the crash site in a orchard with the help of a local. It seems that, remaining without fuel, he didn’t manage to find a safe emergency landing place and crashed into a hill side. The locals placed a stone cross in his honor, still present to this day.

Got the chance to go and dig in the Jassy area where, in 1944, the Red Army tried in the sping and succeded in autumn to break the Axis front. Lots of interesting personal stuff, and check out the Sherman Tank lid I found near Jassy.
